I'm so lucky to have lived in France for the past 11 years, firstly down South and now in the Limousin.
I'm even more lucky to live in the heart of tapestry land and known all around the world. Aubusson is a wonderful small town ( although to the locals here I'm quite sure they think it's large as they've never known anything else ) and has a thriving artisanal community. More importantly, it holds the factory and museum that makes some of the world's most famous tapestries and the nearby small town of Felletin ( where I live ) has the baby tapestry factory that I've visited. They make the carpets and rugs for Louis Vuitton and some rather large aeroplane companies, amongst others.
So, it's not hard for me to find inspiration in such an artistic part of France, just walking out of my front door and breathing the fresh air inspires me!
Every Thursday evening in Aubusson, the roads are closed off to the main part of the town and a brocante is held in all the streets. I went, with my partner and our 19 month old twins, last Thursday evening and had a casual walk around, enjoying the scenery and some of the boutiques. There was music in the streets and in fact, one of my son's friends was singing with his small band outside a café which was cute and so we gave him some support.
I've been meaning to visit a new boutique called ' Le grenier de Mathilde ' for quite a while and so finally managed it and found the most amazingly beautiful fabrics from a designer called ' Frou Frou '. However, they're so expensive just for a fat quarter but really are delicious and so I treated myself to a couple of designs and am glad I did because it's nice sometimes to have something a little bit special in your fabric stash.
