A custom order is quite a daunting one because you're not designing off the top of your head, and for yourself, you're designing on behalf of someone else and having to bring their ideas to life. I absolutely adore doing this and feel most privileged too because anyone wanting a custom order clearly really likes your ideas already and has entrusted in YOU to fulfill their wishes, what a compliment!
The table runner is quite a large project and has required careful talking and planning between myself and the client. I'm a pretty strict business person and follow rules on how I go about doing all of this and like to remain professional at all times. I'm always telling the client that they can change their minds on things right up to the point of starting the sewing and I sent lots of photos back and forth...sketches, colour boards and any links or ideas needed to help the client get a picture of where my imagination is taking their vision.
After two afternoons of careful planning, preparations and cutting, I was finally able to post photos on Facebook yesterday of the initial cut out design and it still has a long way to go, lots of adjustments and talks with the client to make sure the final design is perfect for them but so far so good and I'm absolutely thrilled at the results!
I was asked to do pinks, yellows and purples and we decided upon brights as a base that could be worked upon with any shades of these colours for the appliqué work. I want to add some small flowers here and there too and adore the little robins I was asked to design and do love the quirkiness that a custom design can involve. Watching something like this evolve is most exciting and I'm so pleased to be able to post a photo on here for you all to see and if you want to follow the progress, and ultimately see the end result, then please visit my Facebook page ( link in the Home section of my website ).
It was difficult taking a photo of this because it's so long at 2 metres 10cm and what you can see is only half of it too but how exciting! I'm going to add bubblegum pink ric rac all the way along both edges ( one edge is done for the photo ) and change a few things I'm not so happy with but this is the great thing about design work, you slowly build something that can be changed here and there to get perfect.
I'm always giving things away, he he he. I love it and it makes me happy! I will probably never become a millionaire with this attitude but it doesn't matter, I'd rather be me and do what makes me happy.
So, it's giveaway time at Button Fayre! I ran a poll to see what kind of giveaway gift people would prefer and a Kindle case came out on tops and so it is with great pleasure to have organised this giveaway which is running via Facebook and on my Facebook page.
It's important to stress that under strict Facebook rules the giveaway is not associated with Facebook at all, I take full responsibility for it, and for sending out the giveaway gift, and the winner will be notified via e-mail and so best of luck to all who enter, you have until next Friday 28th June so and how exciting!
