I was asked quite a few weeks ago now to design and make a skirt for a lovely lady in Canada. I'd already made a little skirt one day, when I had a bit of free time, for my little twin girl of 18 months and the lady contacted me straight away to say she loved it! I remember thinking ' wow ' and then wondering if I'd be able to pull it off because I'd never actually made an item of clothing to sell on Button Fayre before.
I've always been very much into making clothes for my children, some appreciated and some not, and so when I was asked to make an adult sized skirt it was just the most wonderful feeling. So, I set about designing and ordering the fabrics and ric rac that I needed and 3-4 weeks later finally had everything in place to actually make a start on cutting the fabrics. It certainly seemed to take it's time in the planning and preparations but once all of that was done the rest was a breeze and I loved every minute of it!
I appliquéd some gorgeous birds all the way around the skirt and then went to work sewing it up and was amazed at how smoothly it all went, no glitches whatsoever! All hems matched up, everything matched up perfectly, which proves that if you plan and prepare well then you're already half way there. Super impressed with myself.
Here's a photo of the finished skirt, modelled by my 14 year old daughter, and it's now on it's way to Canada. Hopefully the lady will receive it any day and I would have loved to see her face when she opens it.
