We had 32 degree sunshine all of last week and then on Saturday it rained and the temperatures had dropped to 20 degrees and today we're down to 15 degrees, amazing.
The seasons always amaze me and I love the weather. I adore the changing colours in each season too, the yellow sunshine and bright colours of the fruits and flowers in the summertime, the beautiful greens turning reds, oranges and then browns of the autumn, the crispness of the white wintertime ( ok, maybe that's a little nostalgic and not reality, unless it does actually snow! ) and even the greys of a dull, dreary day are charming in their own way, and then the gorgeousness of the spring with the world slowly turning green again with with pops of colour and some yellow daffodils mixed in. Yes, the world is a wonderful place!
I was busy all week-end working out how best to organise an upcoming craft fair ( my first one too ) in November and came to the conclusion that the only time I have to make anything for it is over the week-end's and so I am officially working week-ends too now but not for clients unfortunately. This week-end I plan to make 6 flower shaped large bag brooches as I have some cellophane bags coming and some bag toppers that are being designed especially for me and so I'm very excited. I'll be able to put my brooches in these to protect them and keep them clean, not to mention giving them a professional, finished off look.
The other project I worked on all week-end had a a life-long friend in mind. She's been hinting at me for a few months now to create something animal related and I know that she loves cats and so this is where the idea for my latest Scatty scatter cushion ' Cat and Mouse ' came in.
I already knew of course that a cat and mouse would play a large part in the design of this cushion but was unsure how to mix my style into it, the flowers that I love to do. So, I was thrilled to wake up yesterday morning remembering a dream I'd just had of the finished cushion! It was an explosion of beautiful fabrics and colour everywhere and so I set about making a start around 1pm and just couldn't put it down. By 4.30pm I'd finished, the time had flown and I had a sore wrist from all of that cutting.....yes, I use no cutting machines and don't own such things, I really do design and make everything by hand ( with my sewing machine's help of course ).
I'd ' borrowed ' some of my daughter's plain paper ( I'm always doing that and forever replacing it for her, he he he ) to design and cut out the templates for a cat shape and a mouse shape and added these two figures to the design and I must say that it looks just as I'd dreamed it, I'm thrilled!
So here it is, the design for the ' Cat and Mouse ' Scatty scatter cushion. These two are friends which is so clear in the way the little mouse is lovingly staring up at the cat, cute. My cats are forever chasing poor mice in the garden and I sometimes manage to save them and so it's a nice thought that a cat could actually befriend a mouse! One of my cats, Romeo who is now 9 years old, actually was friends once with our little hamster called ' Clem '...well, not actually friends but I could get Clem out of his cage and it didn't bother Romeo in the slightest or give him that dreaded instinct. Lovely!
What an explosion of colour! I LOVE it!
Oh, I forgot to say that I designed this with my friend in mind with no assumption that she would actually want to buy it but she messaged me straight away to say she loves it and wants it and so this cushion is rather special to me now. Sometimes we have friendships and relationships in life that we never forget, people who come into our lives at one particular moment, and for a reason, and I can honestly say that this lady was a great friend at college and we were very close. We moved on, moved away and went in our own directions of course but Facebook brought us back together a few years ago and it's wonderful to see her once again, good old Facebook!
