I adore Christmas and just thinking about it makes me feel warm. It's that special time of the year where even the build up is exciting and I'm thinking about it earlier this year of course due to Button Fayre and having to design and make.
We always put our Christmas tree up on the eve of 30th November so that it's ready for the 1st December and we can enjoy the whole advent, counting down the days. I have a huge pot of mulled wine permanently on the stove and the house smells of Christmas all month, it's wonderful. My antique plates with deer, fawn and anything related to Christmas are out on the table with home-made cinnamon biscuits, orange biscuits and mince pies, or anything else warm and inviting, so that when I have guests over they immediately feel welcome and we can sit and enjoy a warm glass of loveliness with a biscuit.
Living in France has it's disadvantages because there are certain things you can't buy here. The French people I've known since living here haven't ever seen a Christmas cracker and so I either order Christmas things in from the UK or ask my father to bring things over when he comes which is nice and that way we can keep a little bit of the tradition that we're so used to. I also have to almost fight to keep Christmas alive for Boxing day because that doesn't exist here either and so I tend to close my shutters and pretend while everyone else goes back to work on 26th December!
I have found Quality Street here but only the tiny tins which are over 7 euros!! So guess who gets the job of bringing 5 huge tins of those over too every year? he he he Christmas is definately not Christmas without Quality Street on the table in my house.
This week I designed a little fawn template and it's so cute. So, in true Button Fayre style I then grabbed my fabrics and came up with my version of a Christmas bauble.
I didn't think these would take so long to sew up but the appliqué work was so fiddly and then sewing up the hole at the end always takes it's time and before I knew it two hours had passed! They're a wonderful size though and perfect for hanging around the house or on the tree.
I've had to close my order book on Facebook until November 1st as I'm so busy but can take orders to be completed during November.
Life is great!
