Don't you just love it when an idea works out super well?
I've had such a wonderful time designing and making some rosettes for mother's day and suddenly had the idea that I could use the same design and sewing principle to make some brooches with.
Sometimes you get an idea in your head and when you try to realise it something happens that stops it becoming exactly how you'd imagined but this time around Button Fayre's new ' Follie ' brooches ( the spelling is changed slightly so that it makes more sense in English but ' La folie ' in French means ' silly, daft ', etc ) are truly beautiful and rather amazing to look at!
So, armed with piles of fabric, coloured cottons, sturdy felt, brooch backs, buttons and my sewing machine, something incredible started to unfold today. Each brooch has a fabulous 6 layers altogether and each layer is sewn to prevent bad frays ( although small ones are cute! ). Then the layers are sewn together, one by one, to create an ice-cream, cupcake, flowery, riot of colour, finishing of course by sewing to the felt back.
Oh they are gorgeous and I'll be adding them for sale on the website very soon but if you really can't wait then hop on over to Button Fayre's Facebook page to order one now!
They've made my day, they're such fun and have endless design/colour possibilities! What beautiful gifts they'd make too and with mother's day coming up I'm certain that a lot of Mum's would love one of these, especially as they're on offer for an introductory price of £6.50 throughout March.
