I've always been a super organised person, well, I've had to be really with so many children, but fitting in being a full time Mum of older children and the challenges that come with them, and twin babies of 17 months old ( and into absolutely everything right now, including the cat biscuits! ), is it any wonder I've had to organise my time better in order to create and sew?!
The only thing that's worked for me so far is to quite literally switch my computer off when I sit to sew in the afternoon and stick to exactly the same time every day to do so. I have to also make the most, and use every second, of when my twin babies are in bed having their nap and so I've been super disciplined in order to get everything done that needs to be done....feeling quite proud of myself and I'm living proof that women can do 10 things at once!
This week has gone a little crazy and so I've been completing projects for people as well as designing in the evenings AND trying to keep my page alive and fresh with new ideas on a regular basis.
It really is true when ' they ' say that in order to succeed in business you do have to put the work in and no-one could ever accuse me of not doing what's required, above and beyond, to get my little business working and successful. If you don't have time management skills though then you'd better learn fast because I imagine that even without children this is one of the top skills needed to succeed in business.
I've launched a new range of Button Fayre Kids kits this week. They're super cute and will hopefully get lots of children enthusiastic about getting creative. I did put a lot of time, effort and thought into the kits to make them attractive to children so that they want to have a go and ' easy ' enough for them to be able to complete them.
I do really love being asked to do something specific and so this week has had me drawing rabbit outlines for a brooch! I've already done a Daschund for a cushion cover which was a challenge and so took this one in high spirits, and convinced that I'd manage. I'd not thought about the fact that I could design something in different contexts though and so it got me thinking about HOW to draw the rabbit which was quite funny....should I do a cartoon shaped one or keep it serious? As it was for a teacher I decided to keep it serious and glad I did because the cartoon style isn't really my thing and it turns out it may not have been the thing of the person wanting me to design it either because she loved the design I did come up with! Now I just need to sew it up!
Sometimes fate takes a roll in your life because as most people of my work and designs will know, I love colour, and so for me to buy black fabric was a first! I did kind of fall in love with it when I saw it though and wanted to try something different, mixing lots of brights with it to come up with something a little bit different and glad I bought it now or I'd not of been able to complete this brief!
I adore my sunglasses cases actually and would love to take over the world with them....I imagine everyone at every sunshiny beach around using them! he he he
My other new idea in the last week has been business card cases which have really taken off. They're super quirky little designs and I am feeling rather proud of this week's work.
